The school has a main campus in Laguna Beach and educational affiliates locally and around the world including Florence Academy of Arts in Florence, Italy, Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, and NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences (NHTV), Netherlands. All UCLA DMA and Media Arts students have access to numerous labs, spaces, and other facilities. During the final year of the Graphic Design BFA Program, students will complete the Senior Thesis/Research Paper course, Senior Project/Seminar, and a Capstone Project. The Graphic Design BFA Program emphasizes collaboration, cross-disciplinary studies, craft, and presentation skills. Formats covered include branding and logo development, interactive design, books, package design, apps, websites, and posters. Students will learn about UX/UI design, storyboarding, typography and type design, printmaking and traditional letterpress, and motion sequences design.
Michigan State University
Consisting of 180 units of study, with 29 units in the Concentration, the Cal Poly GrC BS requires 60 units of upper-division courses and support courses such as Statistical Concepts and Methods, Physics, and World of Chemistry. Course examples for the major include Consumer Packaging, Digital Printing and Emerging Technologies in Graphic Communication, Applied Graphic Communication Practices, Digital Photography and Motion Graphics, Contemporary Print Management and Manufacturing, and Digital Typography. BS students will complete Senior Project (students’ selection, individual), Senior Project – Independent Study (collaborative) OR Senior Project – Applied Practices (individual or group).

Art Schools
Knowing how to build is a matter of science and technology but knowing what to build is a question of morality, ethics, and aesthetic responsibility. This is particularly important in the Northern Rockies where our historic fabric of cities, rural communities and the natural landscape coexist in a tenuous balance. Focusing on the broad principles of creating a sustainable social, cultural, economic and physical environment we utilize the region, from its major cities to its national parks, as the canvas for our teaching, research and creative activities.
Students also have access to the Book Arts and Letterpress studio, which houses bookbinding equipment and lithography presses. Leading to a BFA, the Graphic Design Program begins with the First Year Experience, where students have the opportunity to explore a range of techniques, tools, and materials, and participate in studio projects and critiques. The Roski School of Art and Design at the University of Southern California offers BFA programs in art and in design. Students can also earn a BA in art through the program, taking advantage of the wider course selections at USC outside the department.
Within a structured sequence of increasingly complex problems, emphasis is placed on teaching both an iterative design process and the visualization skills necessary to demonstrate the resultant design proposals. The science of architecture is continuously evolving and will do so over the life of every architect. In addition to the science of architecture, we are equally committed to ensuring that our graduates acquire a critical philosophy with which they can engage the design of the built environment. PSU offers traditional studio-based MFA programs, but what sets it apart is its unique Art + Social Practice concentration, which socially engaged artist Harrell Fletcher instituted 10 years ago. “Social practice is a term that people now know, and there’s a kind of integration happening with studio-based practices,” he says. “Even in traditional MFA programs, you see more and more artists including participatory, collaborative, performative, site-specific elements into their work.” The three-year, flexible residency program combines individual research, group work, and experiential learning.
According to director Gediminas Urbonas, ACT “isn’t an art school in the traditional sense”—but of course, the boundaries between visual culture, research, and other fields are constantly eroding. ACT’s graduate program only admits six students per year and focuses on artistic practices that combine visual studies and experimentation, offering artists opportunities to work between other programs and labs at MIT. Students get all the cultural benefits of being located in central Manhattan but pay half the price of most other MFA programs in the city. Moreover, the average Hunter grad student takes only six to nine credit hours a semester, with the goal of finishing the program in under three years.
